Google Cardboard Expedition

Today the Laughing Llamas had an amazing experience with Google Cardboard. We had an opportunity to experience virtual field trips in a very fun way. Some of the places we visited via Google Cardboard were China- the Great Wall of China, the Olympic Park, India- the Taj Mahal, the Outer Universe and Egypt. We explored ancient monumental architecture, planetary system etc.

The Llamas thought it would be great to use this experience for writing. So we wrote 'A Moment in Time'. We imagined ourselves present in India or China at that very point in time.

Our sentence starters were:
I saw...
I felt...
I heard...
I wondered...

It was amazing to see what everyone came up with and we can't wait to publish them on our blog. Watch this space!

Writing Superstars

Last term our inquiry topic was 'Flight'. The Laughing Llamas integrated topic into reading and writing. For our writing experience we imagined we were kites and used our senses to describe what we saw, felt, heard etc. It was amazing to see how well students used descriptive words to express. Ka pai! Duffy Show

Today we had Duffy show at school. It was so much fun. The presenters emphasised the importance of reading. Reading makes us smarter, helps us understand what's happening around us, and helps us to use our imaginative skills to understand the story better and bring characters to live.

Trip to Motat

On Tuesday Year 5 students went to MOTAT.
MOTAT stands for Museum of Transport and Technology Auckland

It was amazing to see ancient planes and trains.
Llamas learnt heaps about forces of flight. They are weight, light, thrust, and drag. We can't wait to unpack more and explore the forces need for flight.

 On our way to MOTAT

As a class we made our Tongan tapa using paper, pastels and dye.
